2 vowel rule- When 2 vowels go walking the first one does the talking and the second one is silent and makes the first one say its name- as in leaf
silent e- as in like- the e is silent and makes the first vowel say it's name
long A rule- if you hear A in the middle of the word it's spelled 'ai' if you hear A at the end of the word it's spelled 'ay"
long E rule- if you hear E in the middle of the word it's spelled "ea", if you hear E at the end of the word it's spelled "ee"
long O rule- if you hear O in the middle of the word it's spelled "oa", if you hear O at the end of the word it's spelled "ow".
